Borussia Dortmund head coach Peter Stöger: "Jadon Sancho is a real talent"
The 17-year-old forward made his full Dortmund debut in a mid-season friendly win over Bundesliga 2 leaders Fortuna Düsseldorf earlier this week, and appears to have a genuine admirer in head coach Peter Stöger.
“Jadon took part in a proper training camp,” Stöger said. “It was a good step for him. He has real quality, even though he isn’t quite the finished article in front of goal.”
Sancho’s talents are nothing new to Stöger, however. The Austrian was “very keen” on bringing the Manchester City youth player to former club Cologne, before Dortmund made their move on the final day of last summer’s transfer window.
“He was on our radar, we were very interested,” Stöger revealed. “It was a little bit of a surprise that he didn’t join Cologne.”
Call it fate, call it karma, Stöger now has his man.
“Jadon is a very, very talented lad, a real livewire,” enthused the 51-year-old, who replaced Peter Bosz in the Dortmund hot seat on 10 December 2017. “Let’s see how he handles the situation from here.”
