After being ruled out for six weeks through a knee ligament injury, Weston McKennie is continuing his speedy recovery by returning to Schalke training today.

McKennie suffered the injury during Schalke’s 1-1 draw with Hannover on Matchday 19, having only come on to the pitch 20 minutes before falling under a challenge with Felix Klaus.

But American fans were given something special to wake up to as McKennie returned to train individually, with a return to full team training expected to come soon.

The 19-year-old midfielder had been ruled out for six weeks by Schalke doctors, but he has been in positive spirits since then and is in line to return earlier than expected. And his enthusiastic vibe could be seen in full flow as the teenager sang and danced to a rendition of R. Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly” following training on Tuesday.

McKennie, who is currently enjoying a breakthrough season with Schalke’s first team, has made 14 Bundesliga appearances so far in 2017/18, and his return would be welcomed by the Royal Blues.

Schalke currently sit sixth in the Bundesliga table, claiming just one win in their last six games.
